Measure announced by the regulatory agency affects all batches of a widely publicized product for memory and cognition, while consumers are advised to stop using it immediately and seek information from the competent authorities.

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered the suspension of manufacturing, marketing, distribution, advertising, and use of the supplement Magnesium L-Threonate 1000 mg, manufactured by Natural Sempre Distribuidora e Comércio Ltda. The decision was published on June 1, 2026, and also includes the recall of all batches of the product in circulation in the Brazilian market.

The information was released by g1, based on the official resolution published by Anvisa. According to the regulatory body, the measure was taken after identifying irregularities related to the composition of the dietary supplement marketed by the company.

The decision caught the attention of consumers across the country because magnesium threonate has gained popularity in recent years in advertising campaigns, digital content, and social media. The compound is often associated with benefits related to brain health, memory, concentration, and cognition.

Why did Anvisa ban the magnesium threonate supplement?

Sanitary inspection analyzes dietary supplements after Anvisa's decision.
Anvisa ordered the recall of all batches of Magnesium L-Threonate 1000 mg.

According to Anvisa, the main reason for the ban is related to the use of the compound magnesium threonate in a dietary supplement.

According to the agency, magnesium threonate is not part of the list of substances authorized for use in the dietary supplements category in Brazil. For this reason, the marketing of the product violates the sanitary regulations currently in force in the country.

Furthermore, Brazilian regulations establish specific criteria for the composition, manufacturing, advertising, and sale of dietary supplements. When a company uses unauthorized ingredients for a particular category, regulatory bodies can impose precautionary measures to protect consumers.

For this reason, the General Management of Inspection and Sanitary Surveillance of Anvisa decided to immediately halt the manufacturing and sale of the product.

Meanwhile, the company Natural Sempre Distribuidora e Comércio Ltda. was cited in the resolution as responsible for the product affected by the measure.

What changes for consumers who have already purchased the product?

With the publication of the resolution, the supplement Magnesium L-Threonate 1000 mg can no longer be manufactured, distributed, advertised, sold, or used in the national territory.

Thus, consumers who have the product should stop using it immediately. Additionally, Anvisa recommends that customers contact the responsible company’s customer service channels or reach out to local health surveillance agencies for further guidance.

So far, the resolution does not mention reports of adverse effects, intoxications, or health damage related to the consumption of the product.

According to the agency, the decision was based solely on a regulatory irregularity involving the composition of the supplement. Therefore, the recall did not occur due to recorded clinical events, but because the ingredient used is not authorized for this product category in Brazil.

Furthermore, the measure applies to all batches of Magnesium L-Threonate 1000 mg marketed by the company.

What is magnesium threonate and why does it generate interest?

Magnesium threonate is a specific form of magnesium often promoted by manufacturers and digital influencers as a supplement aimed at cognitive support.

Because of this association, the ingredient has gained traction in marketing campaigns targeted at people interested in memory, concentration, and mental performance.

However, although the compound is known internationally, Anvisa reported that it is not authorized for use in the category of dietary supplements in Brazil.

Consequently, any product classified in this category that uses magnesium threonate is subject to the measures provided by national sanitary legislation.

Additionally, experts remind that the authorization of ingredients in supplements depends on specific technical and regulatory evaluations conducted by the competent authorities.

Thus, the presence of a substance in products sold in other countries does not automatically guarantee its authorization for commercialization in the Brazilian market.

The decision reinforces the importance of sanitary inspection on dietary supplements and highlights the need for consumers to verify the regulation of products before purchase. At the same time, the case shows how the growth of the supplementation market requires constant attention from authorities to ensure compliance with current regulations.

Do you usually check if dietary supplements have authorization from regulatory bodies before buying, or do you tend to rely only on the promotion made by brands and influencers?
