China Announces Release for Corn and Soybean Meal Imports from Brazilian Producers. However, Starting Next Year, It Will Begin to Impose Stricter Requirements.
Another major step has been taken for Brazil to advance in the Chinese market with the import of corn and soybean meal. In a meeting held on Friday (5) in Brasília, representatives from Beijing confirmed to rural producers the removal of protocols for exports. Thus, these two products can be exported to China this year.
China Announces It Will Impose New Requirements in 2023
The information about the decision on corn and soybean meal imports from China in favor of Brazilian products came from Canal Rural commentator Glauber Silveira. The commentator was present at the meeting and emphasized that the new strategy defined by China was already expected. According to Silveira, the release of imports will make shipments of the current harvest easier, as the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA) would not be able to validate the protocols currently imposed.

Glauber further states that the news is that it is now possible to import corn and soybean meal to China. It is very positive news and another market is opening up for the sector. With the authorization from China, Glauber highlights that for the imports of both products to start, it is only necessary for national companies to register.
The release without proof that Brazilian soybean meal and corn production follows protocols previously registered by China will only be valid for this year, precisely when tensions between China and North America are escalating due to conflicts in Taiwan. Such requirements will return next year, according to Glauber Silveira. According to the commentator, starting next year, the Brazilian government will have to comply with all stages of the protocol to carry out imports.
Brazil May Be Impacted by Crisis Between China and the United States
At the beginning of last week, the market saw tensions between China and the United States increase with the visit of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. China does not recognize the island’s independence and has been engaged in an economic war for several years. Therefore, it is important to remember that both China and the U.S. are Brazil’s largest trading partners.
In the first half of this year alone, exports to China, Macau, and Hong Kong totaled US$ 55.81 billion, and for the U.S., there were US$ 20.93 billion in exports. According to Fernando Bueno, International Management Coordinator at Blue3, although Brazil is not directly involved, there is no doubt that it strongly reverberates in the country.
Not only due to the physical war but also because of the economic war of sanctions that could jeopardize various aspects of the Brazilian economy.
