Elera, part of the Brookfield Group, Will Invest R$ 1.2 Billion to Increase Installed Capacity from 1.2 GWp to 1.6 GWp at the Janaúba Complex, Creating Jobs and Reducing CO2 Emissions, CEO Announces.
The installed capacity of the solar complex in Janaúba, Minas Gerais, will be expanded by Elera Renováveis, which belongs to the Brookfield Group. The photovoltaic solar energy, which is currently the largest solar complex in Brazil, will increase from 1.2 GWp to 1.6 GWp of power with an investment of R$ 1.2 billion. The works are expected to begin in January 2024 and be completed in the first quarter of 2025, creating approximately 4,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction.
The solar complex in Janaúba, inaugurated in July, will be expanded by Elera Renováveis, part of the Brookfield Group, which will invest R$ 1.2 billion to add another 422 MWp of capacity. With this expansion, the project will further consolidate itself as the largest solar complex in Brazil, contributing to the economic development of the region and generating thousands of jobs. The works are expected to begin in January 2024 and be completed in the first quarter of 2025, further strengthening the site’s prominent position in the solar energy segment in the country.
Expansion of the Largest Solar Complex in Brazil
Another 840,000 solar modules will be installed, totaling 3.48 million modules for generation. According to Elera, the energy from the expansion is already nearly 60% commercialized in the free market and negotiations are underway to reach 84% of its commercialized capacity, also with self-generation contracts.

Solar energy covered rooftops and deserts, but now it’s preparing a mountain of old glass: up to 78 million tons of photovoltaic panels could become waste by 2050 as the world races to recycle the shiny skin of the energy transition.
Amplification of the Janaúba Solar Complex
The area for the expansion of the complex is more than 960 hectares, equivalent to 1,440 football fields with the capacity to provide energy for 1.164 million homes. The project aims to reduce over 2.4 million tons of CO2 emissions into the environment.
Solar Energy Projects in Janaúba
‘Currently, we have an operational installed capacity of 3.96 GW and projects under development of around 2.88 GW of installed capacity. In 2024 alone, we added to our operational portfolio, in addition to the Janaúba Solar Complex, five wind farms with 540 MW of installed capacity, resulting from three acquisitions and the completion of the construction of the Seridó Wind Complex, located in Rio Grande do Norte’, reported Fernando Mano, CEO of Elera Renováveis, in a statement.
