Mayor of Angra dos Reis Asks Bolsonaro to Speed Up Works on the Angra 3 Nuclear Plant
Fernando Jordão, Mayor of the city of Angra dos Reis, says that the works on the Angra 3 Nuclear Plant need to be accelerated. The resumption of the works will create thousands of jobs and could promote the economic development of the cities in the region, develop new businesses, and create more jobs.
To this end, Jordão wrote directly to President Jair Bolsonaro in a letter to increase tourism on the Green Coast of Rio de Janeiro, requesting faster investments in the project. See the letter below.
“Mr. President,
Greeting you cordially, I hereby respectfully request cooperation in efforts to resume works on Angra 3. As is known, the COVID-19 pandemic is causing an unprecedented economic blow worldwide, and Brazil is no different. We follow and share your Excellency’s concerns regarding the dismantling of our economy.
In this manner, any action that generates jobs will have national priority. At this point, the resumption of the Angra 3 nuclear plant will be an effective measure capable of generating 5,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect jobs. The works have been halted since the corruption scandals. However, the fact is that the new management of Eletronuclear built a program in partnership with BNDES technicians, capable of justifying the necessary investments that will be amortized with the sale of the electricity generated by the Almirante Álvaro Alberto Nuclear Power Plant.
Additionally, the commissioning of Angra 3 will provide energy security for the resumption of Brazil’s economic growth. Given this matter, we respectfully request the adoption of the necessary measures to resume the works on Angra 3, as it will be capable of generating jobs, boosting the economy, and ensuring economic growth in Brazil.
With the certainty that our requests will be duly appreciated and put into practice, we cordially bid farewell.
Respectfully, Fernando Antônio Ceciliano Jordão – Mayor of Angra dos Reis
