Elon Musk Shares His Bombshell Prediction About The Future Of AI On Earth, Claiming That The Only Solution For The Expansion Of Technology Would Be To Take It To Space In Less Than 36 Months
Elon Musk stated that there are only 36 months or less left to place AI systems in space, arguing that this is the only way to ensure enough energy and avoid the end of AI on Earth, given the current electrical limitations.
Elon Musk Says The End Of AI On Earth Can Be Avoided Only With Implementation In Space
Elon Musk revealed what he believes will bring about the end of artificial intelligence on Earth, should there be no structural change in the way the technology is powered. According to him, there is only one way for AI to continue to expand.
Artificial intelligence relies on a large infrastructure of databases and servers. This structure requires an enormous amount of energy to operate, which, according to Musk, creates a physical limit for large-scale expansion.

Scientists detect for the first time an invisible halo around the iconic Sombrero galaxy 30 million light-years away, three times wider than the visible galaxy itself, and researchers say that the more material around it is mapped, the sooner the universe may reveal the true origin of dark matter that sustains its orderly rotation.

Built in 1773 by two rival British inventors, the mechanical Silver Swan still works perfectly 253 years later inside the Bowes Museum, in the English county of Durham, without any electric motor, powered only by clock springs wound once a day, and Mark Twain described it in Paris in 1867 as a creature with lively eyes.

57 years and one day ago, the Soviet probe Venera 6 traversed the clouds of Venus for 51 minutes under parachutes and stopped transmitting 10 kilometers from the surface because the pressure of 60 bar and the heat of 320 degrees Celsius crushed its 405-kilogram hull, and no space agency has managed to replicate the feat to this day.
He declared that there are only months left to implement a plan capable of sustaining this growth. The statement was made during an appearance on the podcast Dwarkesh.
Elon Musk Claims Terrestrial Energy Is Insufficient To Sustain AI Expansion
During the interview, Elon Musk suggested that the solution would be to deploy AI systems in space, not on Earth. He stated that the cheapest place to deploy AI will be in space within 36 months or less, maybe 30 months.
“Less than 36 months, mark what I say,” he declared. For Musk, the amount of energy needed would make it difficult to generate this additional capacity on terrestrial territory.
He asserted that all of the United States currently consumes about half a terawatt of energy on average. According to him, doubling that volume would require the construction of enough power plants to reach another half terawatt.
Musk emphasized that people do not realize how difficult it would be to expand this energy infrastructure on Earth.
Elon Musk Bets On Space Solar Cells As An Energy Solution
The argument presented by Elon Musk is based on the use of solar cells in space. According to him, solar cells cost between 25 and 30 cents per watt in China.
By placing them in space, the cost would effectively become 10 times lower because batteries would not be needed. This reduction would occur due to the absence of solar intermittency outside of Earth’s atmosphere.
Musk stated that launching and operating more artificial intelligence in space each year would surpass the total accumulated on Earth. The forecast was presented as a confident projection of accelerated expansion.
He added that, when considering the percentage of solar energy utilized, it becomes clear that going to space is necessary. According to him, not much can be done on a large scale on Earth.
Elon Musk Comments On Controversies And Pressure On Infrastructure
Artificial intelligence has become a controversial topic due to pressure on electrical grids and the amount of water needed to keep servers running. The growth in demand has raised concerns about hardware costs.
Some have expressed concern about the rising prices of hard drives with RAM, driven by the increasing demand from AI companies. This scenario reflects the structural pressure on the sector.
Generative artificial intelligence has also been at the center of the debate. Critics argue that it functions by regurgitating the work of human artists.
The Grok, AI model used on Elon Musk’s platform X, generated outrage after users encouraged the system to digitally manipulate images of women and children. Musk himself has addressed the episode.
With investors pouring billions of dollars into AI development, the discussion about energy infrastructure remains central. It remains to be seen whether Elon Musk’s prediction comes to fruition within the indicated timelines.
