The First Quarter of 2022 Was Marked by a 7.4% Growth in Solid Cargo Exports through the Port of Paranaguá, and the Portos do Paraná Company Highlights Even Greater Expansion Projections for the Rest of the Year
The Port of Paranaguá, located in the state of Paraná, continues to show its presence in the Brazilian port sector and recorded a 7.4% growth in solid cargo exports during the first 4 months of the year. On Friday (06/05), the Portos do Paraná company projects an even greater expansion in the movement of these bulk goods over the next months of the year.
Portos do Paraná Registers a 7.4% Increase in Solid Cargo Exports at the Port of Paranaguá During the First Quarter of the Year
The cargo handling operations in the Export Corridor of the Port of Paranaguá are experiencing a significant increase this year in 2022. The Portos do Paraná company recorded a strong growth during the first quarter of the year, with 5,975,114 tons of soybeans, meal, wheat, and corn exported from the complex from January to April 2022. In comparison to the same months of the previous year, which totaled 5,561,822 tons, this marks a growth of 7.4%.
Among the cargoes that are being handled in the export operations, some have achieved even greater growth, and the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, commented that “The main contributors to the increase were soybean meal and corn shipped through the three berths that make up the corridor.” However, in the overall ranking, corn exports saw a 35% increase compared to the previous year, taking first place on the list, with 798,152 tons handled this year compared to 591,538 tons in 2021.

Meanwhile, soybean meal exports follow closely, with a 20.4% increase in movement compared to 2021, when exports totaled 1,288,261 tons, while in the last four months of 2022, they reached 1,551,553 tons. However, the export of bulk soybean had a slight decline during 2022, with 3,592,513 tons in 2021 and a decrease of 75,510 tons this year, totaling 3,668,023 tons.
The Solid Cargo Export System at the Port of Paranaguá Is the Main Driver of Growth in Operations
It is clear that the Port of Paranaguá is one of the largest in Brazil for exports and other cargo handling operations, but the Portos do Paraná company emphasizes that the location’s infrastructure is the main reason for this. The site has a unique boarding system that ensures more efficiency in the process and makes the entire logistics chain of movement much faster and more practical within the complex.
The current system at the Port of Paranaguá for boarding allows cargo to be loaded simultaneously by three berths, and it is possible for the same ship to receive goods from different producers. Thus, the entire movement chain becomes much more practical for the vessels. Currently, the Export Corridor has 9 active terminals: AGTL Cargill, Centro Sul, Cimbessul, Coamo I and II, Cotriguaçu, Interalli, Louis Dreyfus, and Rocha, which together total over 1.025 million tons of capacity.
Thus, the infrastructure of the Port of Paranaguá ensures that the results in solid cargo export operations remain positive and that there will be even greater growth in the movement of these products throughout the year 2022.
