After rising gasoline prices, which average R$7, Brazil now has one of the most expensive gasolines in the world, according to a ranking prepared by Global Petrol Prices with 169 places.

Gasoline is becoming more and more expensive in Brazil and consumers are suffering from the high price of fuel when filling up their vehicles, where many have even opted for other means of driving to save. Fuel in the country is priced well above the world average, however, despite the expensive gasoline, the Brazil is still a little far from being the country with the most expensive gasoline in the world. The leader of this ranking, with the most expensive gasoline in the world, is Hong Kong, an autonomous territory of China, according to the analysis of Global Petrol Prices.

Fuel has an average of more than R$ 7 reais in Brazil

In Hong Kong, located in southeastern China, the most expensive gasoline in the world is worth US$ 2,874, on average, in the current dollar exchange rate, this value is equivalent to R$ 13,29. In the rest of China, gasoline costs an average of US$ 1,473. Taking into account that the average value of expensive gasoline is worth US$ 1,552, the Brazil is in the 52nd position of the ranking among the 169 places that were researched in Global Petrol Prices.

According to the latest data issued by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the average price of gasoline in Brazil is R$ 7,219, which is equivalent to US$ 1,561 in the current dollar exchange rate. However, this difference does not change the country's position in the ranking of countries with the most expensive gasoline in the world.

Just above our country is Serbia, where expensive gasoline is worth US$1,603 and right after the Cayman Islands, with an average value of US$1,542.

Roughly and briefly, richer and more developed countries have higher gasoline prices compared to less developed countries, which charge lower prices. However, there are two countries that escape this “rule”.

The first is the United States, which despite being a developed country, has a lower price of gasoline and the other is the Central African Republic, which has one of the worst Human Development Indexes (HDIs) in the world and was in second place in the ranking of countries with expensive gasoline.

See below the main ranking positions and their respective fuel values:

  • 1st: Hong Kong ($2,874);
  • 2nd: Central African Republic ($2,470);
