Investments and Socioeconomic Impact
With investments exceeding R$100 million, which encompass both the acquisition of the factory and the development of the supply chain, the facility located in Camaçari has a production capacity of around 150 turbines annually. This production potential could double over a period of two to three years, ensuring that international quality standards are strictly followed. Additionally, the plant will directly create more than 100 jobs and indirectly around 500 jobs throughout the local supply chain in Brazil, directly boosting the economic and social development of the region. Goldwind’s CEO in Brazil, Liang Xuan, emphasizes that Brazil is strongly committed to sustainable development, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.
Government Support and Strategic Importance
‘Goldwind has been extensively supported by the federal, state of Bahia, and the municipal government of Camaçari to bring this manufacturing unit to the state. We are confident that we will be a strategic partner and an important player in the Brazilian wind turbine supply market, directly assisting in the country’s energy transition,’ noted Liang. The Brazilian facility will begin producing wind turbines in September 2024, featuring a product line based on the GWH 182 platform, ranging from 5.3 MW to 7.5 MW.
Development of a Technology Industrial Cluster
More than simply establishing a manufacturing unit, Goldwind envisions creating a true cutting-edge industrial technology cluster, bringing together companies that complete the production chain of the components needed for wind energy towers. These processes begin with sustainability standards that ensure the competitiveness of the Brazilian wind energy sector. In parallel, Goldwind has ensured that its equipment is accredited with BNDES FINAME, allowing its customers to finance their investments through the bank.
Inauguration Event and Final Perspectives
The start of operations at the plant was celebrated with an event that gathered about 150 guests, including a visit to the manufacturing unit’s facilities. The ceremony featured the presence of the esteemed governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, reinforcing the importance and impact of this new unit in the region and for the country as a whole. With Goldwind in operation, Camaçari will consolidate its role as an important hub in the development of wind turbines, collaborating with technical capacity and innovation in the context of global energy transition and strengthening economic and social development.
