Honda Is Working to End Gasoline-Powered Cars, and Electric Cars Are the Company’s Bet for the Future
The world is experiencing a moment of awareness for the environment. Companies are being pressured to cut carbon emissions, helping to avoid drastic climate changes in the future. As a result, electric vehicles are the focus this time. Honda, one of the most important automakers in the world, announced that in less than two decades, 100% of its manufactured cars will be electric, bidding farewell to gasoline.
The transition from gasoline to electric energy will be gradual. The company plans for 40% of its global sales to consist of electric vehicles by 2030, followed by 80% by 2035, and 100% by 2040. Honda’s thinking regarding carbon neutrality is similar to other companies like Ford and Volkswagen.
This information was provided by Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Honda. He emphasized that the company is committed to assisting the Japanese government in reducing carbon emissions by up to 46%. Mibe also highlighted that the company will invest a total of US$ 46 billion over the next six years in renewable technologies to help develop electric cars, leaving gasoline behind once and for all.

Honda has been investing significantly in electric vehicles in recent years. The current focus is the Prototype, a 100% electric SUV based on the new HR-V. The vehicle is still a prototype, but it is considered the company’s electric vehicle closest to entering the markets. Honda is negotiating with GM to launch two new electric vehicles focused on the U.S.

The focus today is on the American market. California is expected to ban the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles in the state by 2035. Additionally, the U.S. government plans to transition its entire fleet of vehicles to electric-powered cars.
