Itafos Begins Expansion in the Northeast with Office in Bahia Aiming for Increased Sales Volume and Better Logistics. Continuous Growth Projected Through 2026.
The American fertilizer company Itafos is driving significant expansion in the Northeast, opening a new office in the western region of Bahia. This move aims to accelerate sales volume increase and improve logistics operations, reinforcing Itafos’ presence in the Brazilian market.
With this expansion, the company projects continuous growth through 2026, highlighting its commitment to developing regional infrastructure. This new office not only facilitates logistics but also promotes closer contact with local customers, thereby ensuring greater operational efficiency. The expectation is that this initiative will bring significant positive results for the company in the long run.
The special phosphated fertilizer company based in Houston (USA) has a plant in Arraias, Tocantins (TO), and now plans to open a new office in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA). Strategic Logistics Facilitates Expansion in Bahia
The strategic location of the region is advantageous, given its proximity to agricultural areas and only 120 km from the nearest farms on the border between Tocantins and Bahia. The large-scale production of grains in this area allows Itafos to participate competitively in the market. Improved logistics is a key factor in the company’s expansion process.
The president of Itafos in Brazil, Felipe Coutas, highlights that the company’s goal with this expansion is to further strengthen ties with local farmers and partners. ‘We expect continuous growth through 2026, making Itafos a relevant supplier in the national landscape, especially in Western Bahia. Our product has perfect synergy with Bahia’s crops,’ he states.
I-Active Product and Its Importance in the Expansion
In 2023, Itafos resumed production of I-Active, reactive natural phosphate, with the highest solubility index in Brazil and certified by IBD. The company is one of the few in the country to produce this specific item, sourced from sedimentary origin, with high appeal for perennial crops, semi-perennials, opening new areas, phosphorus correction (soil amendment), and systemic fertilization.
The multinational also stands out in the Brazilian market for acidulated fertilizers with the launch of Super Forte Duo. This product combines high solubility and sulfur concentration, serving as a rapidly absorbable source for plants, ideal for the typical vegetation of the cerrado.
Production Capacity and Opening of the New Office
In Brazil, Itafos has an annual installed capacity of around 500,000 tons of fertilizers and 220,000 tons of sulfuric acid. In 2023, Itafos positioned itself as the third largest company in terms of sulfuric acid distribution volume in the country. This expansion demonstrates the company’s continuous development in the Brazilian market.
The new Itafos office in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA) is scheduled to open in October 2024. This move is part of its expansion process, seeking to increase sales volume and improve logistics to more effectively meet the growing demand for its products.
