Danish Owner of the Esvagt Ship Secures Service Contract with Vestas for Hollandse Kust (West) Offshore Wind Farm by Ecowende in the Netherlands.
The Danish shipping company Esvagt has secured a service contract with Vestas for the Hollandse Kust (West) offshore wind farm by Ecowende, in the Netherlands, and has already commenced the design and construction process of the new Service Operation Vessel (SOV).
The new vessel will be the sixth SOV built specifically for Vestas, reinforcing the partnership between the two companies that have collaborated since 2010.
The Hollandse Kust (West), developed by Ecowende – a joint venture between Shell and Eneco, will consist of 52 offshore wind turbines with a combined capacity of over 760 MW. The 15 MW turbines will be supplied by Vestas.

Hollandse Kust (West) Alpha Offshore Substation
The new offshore wind farm will be commissioned in 2026, marking a significant step for the development of offshore wind energy projects. The Danish shipowner Esvagt and the wind turbine manufacturer Vestas have signed a 15-year contract with extension options, ensuring the turbines’ optimal performance. This contract aligns with the service contract from Vestas for EcoWende, an innovative offshore wind farm.
‘Esvagt and Vestas share an extensive history since the early days of offshore wind energy, and Vestas has been one of our key partners in developing and refining our SOV concept,’ said Søren Karas, Commercial and Strategy Director at Esvagt.
The Ecowende wind farm adheres to various criteria unrelated to the Dutch government’s price, including the creation of a bird corridor within the layout of the offshore wind farm. The height of the center has been increased to create more vertical space for birds, along with the integration of bird and bat detection and deterrence systems in the turbine design.
The Hollandse Kust (West) Alpha Offshore Substation wind farm is located about 53 kilometers off the Dutch coast, near IJmuiden. This project is part of the ongoing commitment to drive renewable energy and shipbuilding to meet the growing demand for offshore wind energy.
