For the author, privatizing the company is not good management. Nuclep is responsible for designing and manufacturing equipment for the areas of oil and gas and electricity, in addition to nuclear energy.
“The fundamental importance of Nuclep was highlighted by its role in the Submarine Development Program (Prosub)”, said the author, deputy André Figueiredo (PDT-CE). “Privateizing the company is not good management,” he continued.
The proposal under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies mentions that Nuclep, installed in Rio de Janeiro, was responsible for manufacturing the resistance hull of the Riachuelo nuclear submarine (SBR-S40), the first of four vessels to be built as part of a policy to strengthen the country's naval sovereignty.

The project to exclude Nuclep from the Government's privatization target will be analyzed by the Mines and Energy commissions; of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Services and Constitution; and Justice and Citizenship. It will then go to the plenary for consideration.

The project is called LABGENE (Nucleoelectric Power Generation Laboratory) and was conceived as a prototype, on land and in full scale, of the propulsion systems that will be installed on the submarine.
The reactor is in the process of manufacturing, assembling and supplying the vessel (cylinder) and internal containment structures, in addition to the primary shielding tank.
