Marta Celestino, CEO of Ebony English School, researcher and consultant in Innovation and Diversity, addresses SDGs and terms such as social structuring, Agenda 2030, and marginalized groups in the Brazilian Industry Magazine.
The presence and actions of private sector companies in promoting sustainable development are essential for achieving global goals. Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in the UN Global Compact conference, where we discussed the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other issues related to Agenda 2030. It was inspiring to see how companies are committing to implementing more sustainable practices and contributing to a better future for all.
The global agreement established under the Global Compact represents a worldwide commitment to sustainability and socioeconomic development. During the conference, the engagement of companies in concrete actions to tackle environmental and social challenges was evident. The signing of this global treaty demonstrates the willingness of organizations to contribute to a more equitable and ecologically healthy world.
Social Structuring and Global Commitment
I noticed that this delegation brought a different profile, with representatives from marginalized groups, but also small business owners committed to social causes. The diversity of voices addressed crucial issues, from the environment, health, education, and employment to social interaction, revealing the complexity of everyday life, which requires a profound reassessment and a new educational approach.

Universal Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals
Many voices were resonating, including those of indigenous peoples and LGBTQIAPN+ movements. Not only impactful accounts were shared, but also proposals and success stories, highlighting creativity and independence. The inclusion of Black women was especially emphasized, recognizing not only motherhood as reproduction but also associating it with leadership power based on life and well-being.
Global Commitment and Forum for Change
Small businesses and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) highlighted the collaboration needed to drive effective change. Experienced professionals from the third sector have played a crucial role in alerting society to the urgent need for change and breaking paradigms.
Global Compact and Agenda 2030 for the Future
Finally, the conference highlighted that it is not enough for large companies to simply develop environmentally friendly products and implement inclusion and equity policies if they continue to sell products that people – and the planet – have nowhere or no way to store, recycle, or decompose. It is imperative to rethink quantitative consumption, assess the flow of money in numbers, and understand the responsibility associated with wealth concentration, considering the impacts on the planet’s natural and social ecosystems.
Global Treaty and Effective Action for Change
The event pointed to the urgent need for us to take effective actions, proposing and implementing solutions. Those who have more resources also have more responsibilities. The desirable future is one of a society committed to global pacts to maintain best practices, avoiding disastrous consequences of social inequalities, reflected in environmental disasters and social issues leading to violence and exclusion.
