Ocyan, Brazilian Oil and Gas Company, Leads in Competition for Drillship Acquisition Offered by Petrobras
The oil sector is eagerly awaiting the result of Petrobras’ proposal to lease up to eight drilling drillships. The review of the documents containing the lease proposal for the drillships is scheduled for June 28, after two postponements. Ten companies are pre-qualified to compete for the leases, namely Ocyan, Ventura, Constellation, Stena, Seadrill, Transocean, Ensco, Etesco, NE Drilling, and Brasdril.
The tender to compete for the drillships offered by Petrobras is divided into three stages, which have deadlines for contract execution ranging from 1,095 to 1,460 days. In the first stage, Petrobras plans to lease up to two dynamically positioned drillships with high specifications for operations at water depths of up to 3,000 meters, equipped for blowout response.
In the second stage, Petrobras is examining five more dynamically positioned drillships with high specifications, capable of operating at water depths of up to 2,400 meters.

The expected date for the start of the services of the drillships varies. For example, in the case of stage 3, the vessels may be ready to operate between December 2022 and September 2023, with a mobilization period of 180 days.

Ocyan Reaches New Maintenance Services Contract
Ocyan, a Brazilian company operating in Petrobras’ petroleum derivatives industry, has signed a new contract to provide construction, assembly, and maintenance services for the FPSO replicants P-66, P-67, P-68, P-69, and P-70 for Petrobras. The contract duration is four years, with a strong possibility of extension for another two years.
This new proposal will help to double the size of Petrobras’ offshore maintenance and services business and reinforce its leadership position in this sector of the Brazilian market.
“We have reached a significant level within the offshore maintenance and services chain. Ocyan, which has job openings available, has been developing, and the results are visible with the three contracts signed since the beginning of last year. Currently, Ocyan holds an important market share in Brazil, approximately 15% to 20% compared to high-level global contracts, especially concerning the Santos Basin, where we will have extensive operations,” highlights Vinicius Castilho, the director in charge of the Maintenance project.
Among the main actions planned in the contract signed by Ocyan are maintenance and repair services for the units, including welding, painting, electrical and instrumentation, equipment maintenance, among others.
Vessels Where Ocyan Will Provide Services Have High Production Capacity
The five FPSO replicants operate in the Tupi, Berbigão, and Atapu fields, and the units where they are located have an individual production capacity of 150,000 bpd and can compress 6 million m³/daily of gas.
“Ocyan’s portfolio has significantly increased, which will generate more job opportunities, with around 2000 people by December 2022. New hires are still taking place, and we are very committed to meeting all agreed contractual deadlines, always focusing on operational excellence and safety combined with our expertise,” states Castilho.
According to Director Vinicius, Ocyan is striving to execute existing contracts well, two of which were obtained last year, and seeks to diversify its clients, with a commercial agenda that includes players in foreign countries and other national and independent companies.
