U.S. Dealerships Are Organizing to Conduct the Recall on Ford Mustang Models. Amid the Issue, It Fell to the Multinational Ford to Admit the Mistake and Resolve the Matter
The safety issue was with the rear camera (or backup camera). About 330,000 Ford Mustangs, from models released between 2015 and 2017, will need to return immediately to dealerships. Since mid-May 2021, Ford has been facing a lawsuit, initiated by owner Enrique Rodriguez, who accused the multinational company of producing the Mustang with a defect in the trunk area.

The defect pointed out by Enrique Rodriguez is in the wiring support of the backup safety camera, which is responsible for causing the cameras to stop functioning.
According to the Mustang owner, Ford was fully aware of this problem and did not notify the owners of the models or those purchasing that year’s model. It then fell to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to get involved and learn more about the lawsuit.

The NHTSA noted the lawsuit filed by Enrique Rodriguez and decided to conduct its own investigation. There were reports that a supplier of Magna, the company responsible for manufacturing the camera for Ford, made a significant unauthorized alteration during the manufacturing process.
Serious Damages to Mustang Users and Ford Itself
The result of all this was a significant vulnerability recorded in the final product, which caused considerable losses to the various users of the multinational who opted at the time for the Mustang model, one of the most renowned and beautiful cars ever released by Ford.
According to a document issued by the NHTSA, two accidents were caused precisely by the identified problem, although without injuries or anything more serious. The multinational believes that the recall on the Mustang should resolve the entire issue.
In a statement, Magna admitted that there was indeed a problem that, upon investigation, was found that the welding aspect was compromised, as the welds moved moments before complete solidification during the process still conducted within the industry, resulting in a type of misalignment. Magna committed to resolving the misalignment issue and reinforcing the welds.
Ford’s Statement
The multinational Ford also admitted its share of the blame and took responsibility for part of the problem, noting that the damage to the backup camera wiring was caused by errors in the assembly and construction of the vehicle.
Ford stated that the error was corrected only from the Mustang model released in 2018 and will also be addressed in the recall of previous models, initiated on February 17.
The recall is extremely important, being considered a high priority, where the vehicle brand believes that the backup cameras are a type of critical equipment. Ford Brazil has not yet commented on how the recall will work for the models sold here in the country.
