BNDES analyzes 56 projects related to critical minerals and works with the possibility of reaching R$ 50 billion in investments and credit for the sector. The information was presented by Aloizio Mercadante this Tuesday (12), in São Paulo.
The president of the institution provided the details during a press conference to disclose the quarterly balance. He stated that BNDES intends to operate in this type of mining, a new front in the portfolio.

Mercadante declared that the bank is working with the possibility of reaching R$ 50 billion in investment and credit in the sector. The statement reinforces the intention to expand the institution’s presence in this segment.

The analysis of the 56 projects takes place amid the movement to diversify the portfolio. The president informed that the institution is moving away from traditional sectors to invest in new strategic areas.
Among the examples cited are fertilizers, flying cars, bioinputs for agriculture, and Embraer. Another focus area for BNDES is artificial intelligence, also included in this shift.
New sectors enter the portfolio
Diversification was presented as part of the strategy to expand operations beyond known segments. Mercadante stated that BNDES seeks to invest in new sectors, with attention to productive and technological areas.
In the interview, the president also commented on the agreement between Mercosur countries and the European Union. The treaty came into force provisionally on May 1st, as reported in the press conference.
Agreement with the European Union
Mercadante assessed that the agreement represents progress for both blocs. For him, the treaty is important in the scenario of commercial unilateralism and opens possibilities for economic rapprochement.
The president of BNDES highlighted that the negotiation creates an opportunity for Europe to look more towards Mercosur and for Mercosur to look more towards Europe.
