Honda Plans to End Gasoline-Powered Vehicles by 2040. The Company Already Plans to Launch Electric Motorcycles by 2024
Honda announced last week that it would end gasoline-powered vehicles by 2040 at the latest. However, the sale of electric vehicles is expected to begin only in 2030. The company has not yet set a deadline to start selling electric motorcycles. Today, motorcycles account for a significant portion of the billion-dollar revenue of the Japanese giant.
However, Toshiro Mibe, CEO of Honda, already has a plan to launch four electric motorcycles by 2024. Three motorcycles will have between 50cc and 125cc. Three models are expected to focus on the urban market, while one electric motorcycle is expected to be sold as a sport motorcycle.
In Honda’s presentation, sketches of two motorcycles that seem to be scooters are displayed, while one of the motorcycles appears to be from the 125cc line, also from the company. The last one is expected to be a more sporty, powerful, and expensive motorcycle. It is speculated that it will be the electric model of the CB125R.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Honda and other companies are working hard to catch up on lost time in electric motorcycles, considering that recent years have focused on advancing the electric car market. Recently, Honda signed an agreement with battery manufacturers to create a common standard between companies. With this, batteries can be swapped between brands without much difficulty. The plan is for the market to gain more and more space.
Electric Motorcycle Market Should Be Beneficial to Consumers’ Wallets
Regarding the lightweight electric motorcycle market, the motorcycle that is expected to draw the most attention is the Husqvarna, an electric motorcycle that is expected to gain significant market share in the coming years. Other projects are already in more advanced phases around the globe. Investments in electric motorcycles are good for the environment and for people’s wallets. Developing countries, such as Brazil, can benefit greatly from these projects.
