The Construction of the Offshore Production System of Aker Solutions and TotalEnergies in Brazil Will Cover the Management of the EPCI Interface
Aker Solutions has signed a contract with the French energy giant TotalEnergies for the delivery of the subsea production system, related tools and EPCI interfaces for the construction of the Lapa South West offshore field in Brazil.
The offshore development concept located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin is a subsea tie-back to the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba, using existing facilities and infrastructure for TotalEnergies and Aker Solutions’ construction in Brazil.
Aker Solutions will provide an offshore subsea production system, including up to three subsea trees and control systems, tie-ins, subsea structures, and umbilicals, as well as associated equipment and installation work in Brazil.

The scope also includes management of the EPCI interface, in partnership with Saipem Brazil, and upgrading the control system of existing subsea trees. Work is set to begin immediately with deliveries scheduled from the first quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2024.
Unrevealed Mystery
The company did not disclose further details about the TotalEnergies and Aker Solutions contract but stated that it is “huge,” which means that the construction in Brazil is worth between NOK 0.5 billion and NOK 1.5 billion (approximately between € 46.5 million and € 139.7 million).
“We are pleased to be selected to execute the Lapa South West subsea project. The Brazilian offshore market is becoming increasingly diverse in terms of scope of work and customer opportunities,” said Maria Peralta, Executive Vice President and Head of Subsea Business at Aker Solutions.
“We look forward to extending our long-standing relationship with TotalEnergies, as the representative of Lapa JV, for the Brazilian market, and further increasing Brazil’s hydrocarbon potential.”
About the Field Where the New Construction Will Operate
Discovered in 2007, the field is situated in block BM-S-9, which was divided into two sub-blocks after the discovery of Sapinhoá. Full commercial offshore production began in late 2016, through the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba MV27, at 100,000 b/d.
Yesterday, TotalEnergies announced that it had approved a final investment decision (FID) for the offshore oil development project, representing an investment of approximately US$ 1 billion.
The start of offshore production in the Lapa Southwest project is expected in 2025, increasing the production of the Lapa field by 25,000 barrels of oil per day, raising total production to 60,000 barrels of oil per day.
