New hybrid flex SUV from GWM promises to combine power, efficient consumption, larger trunk, and advanced technological package to compete in the market with Jeep Compass and Toyota Corolla Cross
The Brazilian hybrid SUV market is about to gain a new competitor that promises to further increase the competition among the major brands in the segment. Scheduled to arrive in Brazil in the second half of 2026, the GWM Haval H6 hybrid flex emerges as an aggressive bet by the Chinese manufacturer to directly challenge established models like the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Jeep Compass hybrid.
Moreover, the new electrified SUV promises to unite a very strategic combination for the Brazilian consumer: hybrid flex engine, high autonomy, generous internal space, and a technological package filled with semi-autonomous features.
The information was released by “AUTOO”, specialized in the automotive sector, highlighting that the launch should reinforce GWM’s expansion in Brazil and increase competition in the medium hybrid SUV segment.

While the Toyota Corolla Cross has been operating in the national market for years and the Jeep Compass prepares its mild hybrid version, GWM tries to differentiate itself by offering a more sophisticated and efficient hybrid flex system.
GWM Haval H6 hybrid flex bets on PHEV technology and bi-fuel engine

The new GWM Haval H6 hybrid flex will use a 1.5 turbo bi-fuel engine that can run on both gasoline and ethanol. Additionally, the set will be offered in two different electrified configurations.
The first option will be a full hybrid (HEV), similar to the system currently used by the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The second version will feature plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV), considered more advanced as it allows external battery charging.
According to rumors shared on social media and cited by the automotive sector, the official launch may happen by the end of July 2026.
The new SUV will be the second plug-in hybrid flex vehicle from GWM in Brazil. The first was the GWM Tank 300, which uses a 2.0 turbo flex engine with an impressive 394 horsepower.
Furthermore, the plug-in technology offers an important advantage for urban use. This is because the electric system can operate during a large part of the daily route, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
With fast chargers with power up to 50 kW, charging can take between 24 and 40 minutes to recover from 30% to 80% of the battery. Meanwhile, in residential or public Wallbox chargers of 7 kW to 6.6 kW, the complete process takes between 6 hours and 6 hours and 30 minutes.
Autonomy, interior space, and technology highlight the Haval H6
One of the biggest differentiators of the GWM Haval H6 hybrid flex is precisely its high autonomy.
According to Inmetro data cited by the original publication, the current plug-in hybrid version can travel up to 743 kilometers in the city using gasoline.
This number easily surpasses direct rivals:
- Jeep Compass hybrid: 556 km
- Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid: 598 km
Furthermore, experts believe that the future flex version should maintain similar performance also using ethanol.
Another important highlight involves the interior space. The Haval H6 currently has a trunk of 560 liters, a volume significantly superior to its competitors.
Check out the comparison:
- GWM Haval H6: 560 liters
- Toyota Corolla Cross: 440 liters
- Jeep Compass: 410 liters
Additionally, GWM is heavily investing in embedded technology and advanced safety to win over Brazilian consumers.
Among the main equipment present in the SUV are:
- 540º camera with invisible hood function
- Full Parking Assist system
- Smartcornering with automatic adaptation in curves
- 12 parking sensors
- 5 cameras
- 2 radars
- Semi-autonomous driving assistant
- Auto Reverse Assistance
- Adaptive ACC with Stop & Go
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Recognition of pedestrians, motorcycles, and bicycles
- Automatic braking in rear cross traffic
- Speed sign recognition
- EDR system with driver behavior recording
Additionally, the SUV also features the so-called “intelligent diversion,” which moves the car up to 30 centimeters during truck overtaking.
GWM tries to surpass Corolla Cross and Compass in cost-benefit
The GWM Haval H6 hybrid flex arrives in Brazil precisely at a time of strong transformation in the national automotive market.
While consumers seek more economical and technological vehicles, Chinese manufacturers are rapidly increasing their presence in the country.
Moreover, GWM is betting on a more complete package to face traditional Japanese and American rivals.
Today, for example, the Toyota Corolla Cross XRX Hybrid costs R$ 222,690. Meanwhile, the future Jeep Compass mild hybrid is expected to hit the market in the R$ 225,000 range.
Although the official prices of the Haval H6 hybrid flex have not yet been disclosed, experts believe the model could offer better cost-benefit thanks to greater interior space, a more extensive list of equipment, and more advanced technology.
Another important factor involves the plug-in hybrid system, considered more efficient for urban use than the mild hybrids and conventional hybrids used by competitors.
Furthermore, the arrival of the model is expected to further intensify the competition among electrified SUVs in Brazil, increasing pressure on traditional brands.
Hybrid flex SUVs promise to heat up the Brazilian market in 2026
The arrival of the GWM Haval H6 hybrid flex shows how the Brazilian market for electrified SUVs is rapidly evolving.
Additionally, the new model reinforces the strategy of Chinese brands to offer more technology, high autonomy, and sophisticated equipment at competitive prices.
While Jeep and Toyota continue to bet on models already known to Brazilian consumers, GWM is trying to gain ground with more modern solutions and a very efficient mechanical set.
The result of this competition could directly benefit the consumer, who will have more options in the hybrid and electrified segment.
