Oceana Shipyard in Itajaí (SC) Will Host Naval Construction of Tamandaré Class Frigates for the Brazilian Navy, and Hiring is Expected to Start Soon
According to Portal Defesa TV, the recruitment and selection of professionals for the construction of the Tamandaré Class Frigates for the Brazilian Navy is expected to begin soon at the shipyard in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. It is estimated that the first Frigate will be ready in 2024, creating over 2,000 direct jobs and 6,000 indirect jobs in the region, boosting naval construction in the state.

In August, the Brazilian Navy’s Naval Projects Management Company (Emgepron) inaugurated its base located in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. The company will be responsible for the planning and execution of the construction project for the Tamandaré Class ships (frigates) at the Oceana shipyard.
The contract for naval construction of four vessels at the Oceana shipyard was signed by the Brazilian Navy and the Águas Azuis consortium, which includes Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer, and Atech. The project is valued at over 6 billion reais, with expectations of generating 2,000 direct jobs and around 6,000 indirect jobs at the peak of production.

The City of Itajaí (SC) Hosting Brazilian Naval Construction
Itajaí is already nationally recognized as the capital of naval construction and is expected to soon become a reference in Latin America. The city in Santa Catarina is the first in the country to receive a military contract from the Federal Government. Investments total R$ 9.1 billion, and the project will be executed at the Oceana shipyard.
The German multinational Thyssenkrupp also has an office in Itajaí and is already assembling its leadership team, hiring professionals from various areas, including some already working on the development of naval construction for the frigates.
